Permaban – Steel Armoured Joints
The requirement
Permaban, a leading manufacturer of steel armoured joints for industrial concrete floors, sought to revolutionise the industry with a new product: Permaban Signature. This groundbreaking design featured a distinctive corrugated shape, a departure from their traditional straight steel strips. The product required exceptional precision in its folds to ensure functionality and durability, presenting a unique engineering challenge. Permaban turned to Aldermans for their expertise in tooling design and high-quality production to bring their concept to life.
The solution
Aldermans collaborated closely with Permaban to design and manufacture the tooling required for Permaban Signature’s unique corrugated shape. Each 2-metre steel plate required 14 folds with a tolerance of just ±1.5mm, necessitating rigorous quality assurance and weeks of refinement.
Using advanced laser cutting and power press folding, Aldermans transitioned to full-scale production. The corrugated elements were manufactured at our Plymouth facility and delivered to Permaban’s Lee Mill plant for assembly. To support the process, our team visited Permaban’s site to provide assembly guidance and streamline workflows, ensuring seamless integration of components into the final product.
The outcome
Permaban Signature debuted at the UK Concrete Show in 2012, where it won the prestigious Most Innovative New Product award. The product has since become a cornerstone of Permaban’s portfolio, with strong sales growth and expansion into new markets.
Aldermans’ precision manufacturing and collaborative approach ensured the successful development and ongoing production of this award-winning product, reinforcing Permaban’s reputation as an industry leader.
