Introducing Robotic Welding to the Factory Floor

Home » News » Introducing Robotic Welding to the Factory Floor

It is always a big moment when we bring new machinery into the factory, and our collaborative robotic welding system is no exception. Installed to boost consistency and efficiency, this latest investment is already proving its worth.

The system is built around an EWM Titan XQ 400 Puls MIG plant, paired with a Universal Robots UR10e robotic arm. It is controlled using a user-friendly interface from Smooth Robotics, allowing for clean, repeatable welds across medium to high production volumes.

We invested in robotic welding to meet the growing demand for consistent, high-quality fabrication. Although the actual weld time is similar to manual welding, the real benefit lies in reduced preparation time and enhanced repeatability. The robot provides an accuracy of ±0.1mm, and once a weld path is programmed, it will follow it consistently, part after part.

It also helps our team work more efficiently. While the robot runs, the operator can prepare the next part or carry out inspections, improving overall throughput.

The system handles MIG welding on mild steel and can also weld stainless steel and aluminium. It is ideal for fillet welds, butt welds, pipe welds, plug welds, and tack welding, with optimal results observed on batch runs of 50 units or more.

With a reach of 1300 mm, the cell can accommodate components up to 1.5 metres in length, depending on the part’s geometry. We also design and manufacture bespoke jigs in-house to ensure secure and efficient setups.

Our collaborative setup enables engineers to guide the robotic arm by hand using the Smooth Robotics flange. There is no complex code, no offline programming, just straightforward, intuitive teaching.

We are proud to keep investing in tools that support our team and enhance what we offer to customers. Find out more about our Robotic Welding capabilities or contact our sales and technical colleagues to request a project quote.
